Undergraduate and Career & Technical Study Scholarships Guidelines and Applications

The Patterson Rotary Club will be giving away up to $6,000 in undergraduate and career & technical scholarships to graduating high school seniors in the Brewster, Carmel, Dover and Pawling school districts! To read the guidelines and download an application visit our Scholarships Page.  
 
 
The instructions are in the application packet and are indicated below.
 
You can apply for one of two scholarships - The Community Service Scholarship or the Geoffrey L. Reinwald Inventiveness Scholarship
 
The Community Service Scholarship
A total of up to $4,500 in Scholarship money. This is broken down into four different scholarships.
 
$1500 - William H. Kieran Scholarship
$1000 - Service Above Self Scholarship
$1000 - Community Service Scholarship
$1000 - BOCES Trade Scholarship
 
The criteria for selection is based on the applicant’s community service activities. For each scholarship, the Club reserves the right to emphasize one factor over the others in the selection process. 

The applicant must:
  1. Submit proof of your graduating senior status and acceptance at an institution of higher learning. Please provide a copy of the student’s school ID card and Report Card.
     
  2. Submit a resume of community service activities for the past two years outside of school activities.
     
  3. Write a 500-word essay based on Rotary International’s credo: “Service Above Self” and how it relates to your personal involvement in community service and how your involvement of time, talent and energy makes a difference in the community.
     
  4. Submit two letters of reference specific to this scholarship (NOT a referral letter used with college applications); one from an educator, and one from a community leader (club leader, church leader, community service leader, etc.). Letters of support should be based on the student’s community service and leadership skills OUTSIDE of school-based community service clubs.
  5. The fully completed application must be received by the Club on or before the deadline indicated in order to be considered.
     
The Geoffrey L. Reinwald Inventiveness ​​​​​​ Scholarship
A total of up to $1,500 in Scholarship money. 
 
Criteria for selection:
This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating high school senior who due to family responsibilities has been unable to obtain the required community service requirements. The recipient is an individual who is enthusiastic about furthering their education and exhibited grit and creativity within their community.
 
The applicant must:
  1. Complete above steps 1-3.
  2. Submit two letters of reference specific to this scholarship (NOT a referral letter used with college applications). One from an educator and the other from either an employment senior manager, social services representative or community leader (club leader, church leader, community service leader, etc.). Letters of support should be based on the student’s resilience and leadership skills in the wake of personal responsibilities and challenges, and their commitment to community service OUTSIDE of school-based community service clubs.
 
A select Scholarship Committee will vet all completed applications, choose finalists and submit to the Board of Directors for approval at their May 3, 2022 meeting. Winners will be notified no later than May 6, 2022. Checks will be issued payable to the student unless otherwise requested.
